In order to keep NyanCraft interesting to both long time players and newcomers, I am starting to publicize some ideas as polls. They are in no means final but gives me insight about what players wants.

This time, I am wondering what difficulty you want to have our survival server at. It is currently set at normal, which is a tad easy. I suggest raising the difficulty to hard, vote in the poll to show me what you want.

    The times they are a-changin'.

I say normal. If I'm new to Minecraft I'd not want to face hordes upon hordes of skeletons, zombies and creepers attacking me. On the other hand if I'm doing a big build in the wilderness I'd want to build it into the night. If it's put on hard the sheer numbers of enemy mobs would be rather annoying. That's just my 2 cents.

    The following is hard:
I don't see amount of mobs changing in there.

I vote hard mode. But is there anyway you could turn up mob spawning anyway because artificial mob spawners don't work very well.

I would say hard mode, normal is just way to easy with all the enchanted sword you can easily get with villagers/XP farms.
Just a little question, is there chancing anything on the drop rate of items when the difficulty is going to hard mode?

I don't think that vanilla minecraft adds anything. But I am looking to change way more than just difficulty. I feel that we need to freshen up a bit, people here are too afraid of changes. It's really annoying and demotivating to see the way people respond.

Hard. I often like a bit of challenges.

In 1.4 mobs drop more items rare items in hard. But they do also spawn with more armor so... But I totally agree with hard, it was a long time ago since I was last killed by a mob. Also gives towns even more function. Also more mobs would be good. Now there so little I almost have to search for them during night. It should be so much that I have nowhere to hide.

Dang. Well anyway it will will be harder for noobs. Considering that those that will vote are not noobs, I'd consider doing a broadcast in chat.

Btw in a vanilla server the mob caps is higher on hard.

Edit: seems like I need to correct myself, the mob caps is constant. The formula for hostile mobs is always
70*chunks/289 there chunks is all currently loaded chunks on the server. That means that the more spread all players are, the more mobs will spawn.

Giants would be a cool addition.

In hard you can't survive a close creeper explode, not even with full diamond armor. Finally I will have to actually worry about creepers.

Erm... Don't be stupid? I have no problems with mobs. If you live in a town, you probably don't have to worry about mobs.

Just don't walk next to a creeper then stay there. I can easily explode tons of creepers with like no armor.

Haha, I think you misunderstood my post finerre. I ment that now in normal, mobs deal so little damage I don't even care if I hear a creeper behind me. But with hard I will have to actually start avoiding mobs again.

    Meh
